Is mint tea actually tea?
Mint tea can refer to two things:
Tea with mint - especially in North Africa - which is normally gunpowder green tea and mint - sometimes with other herbs and lots of sugar, drunk out of a short glass.
Mint - which isnβt tea at all - is an herbal infusion of mint leaves.
While our Rare Mint Tea is composed of only rare mints, it is crafted from a specially selected blend of these leaves. Our other loose leaf mint teas contain a blend of fresh mint leaves, other herbs, and tea from the Camellia sinensis plant - especially our Soothe-Me tea. Soothe-Me is a caffeine-free herbal infusion with Whole Camomile Flowers, Tulsi Holy Basil and Malawi Spearmint, making it an ideal herbal tea to unwind from the stress of the day, or to aid digestion after a large meal. Our Green Tea & Mint is also made from rare loose leaf green tea from Zhejiang, China and spearmint from the Satemwa Estate in Malawi.
Is mint tea good for you?
We are not medical professionals at Rare Tea. No amount of mint tea - either green tea with mint or a fresh herbal infusion - can be a substitute for a healthy, active lifestyle and nutritionally complete diet. You can be sure that Rare Teaβs mint herbal tea, or in combination with our gunpowder green tea, is made without any industrial agrichemicals - herbicides, pesticides or industrial fertilisers.
Many people enjoy drinking mint tea as a digestive, to combat nausea, or find it calming and as a way to reduce stress after a long day.
What temperature should mint tea be brewed at?
We have many rare mint teas and blends containing mint.
The temperature of the water to brew fresh mint tea depends on which of our mint tea blends you choose. For Soothe-Me or Green Tea & Mint, or a blend with gunpowder green tea, 75Β°C (167Β°F) is ideal. For our Portuguese Peppermint, Rare Mint Tea, or Malawi Spearmint, we recommend 100Β°C (212Β°F) for the optimum infusion.
Each of our teas includes an infusion guide, so you can make the perfect infusion each time - find it just underneath the main product images.
How do these loose mint teas compare to traditional tea bags?
When you brew tea bags - what else are you brewing?
Nanoplastic, microplastics, solvents, bleaches.
When you brew loose leaf tea or a fresh mint infusion - that's all you get. Ours are organically grown so there are no industrial pesticides in your tea.
Can mint tea help you lose weight?
Tea can be part of a healthy diet and lifestyle. But no tea or herb on its own can help you lose weight.Β There is no such thing as diet tea - that's healthwashing.
Is peppermint tea good for sleep?
Mint as a pure herbal infusion has no caffeine.
However green tea and mint, which is often what people refer to as βmint teaβ does have caffeine.Β If you want to protect your sleep by reducing your caffeine, especially later in the day, our Malawi Spearmint tea or Portuguese Peppermint teas are both naturally caffeine-free.Β
Does mint tea help with bloating?
While mint tea has been known to aid nausea and has been used for centuries as a digestif - there is no concrete peer reviewed evidence to suggest it helps bloating - that's healthwashing.
Does mint tea contain caffeine? Does mint tea help sleep?
Mint tea does not contain caffeine - our Malawi Spearmint, Soothe-Me Tea, Portuguese Peppermint and Rare Mint Tea do not contain caffeine. But our Green Tea & Mint does contain caffeine, as it also contains loose leaf green tea.
So drinking herbal mint tea on its own, without green tea, will not contain caffeine, so it will not directly impair your ability to sleep. However, Green Tea & Mint might affect your sleep due to its caffeine content.Β
