Flavoured black teas are often made with very low-quality tea that has been masked with strong flavourings to “premiumize” a cheap product.
We do the opposite, using only high quality, expertly crafted black tea, artisanal methods and only natural additions.
· Our Rare Earl Grey uses a bespoke blend of black tea from Satemwa in Malawi with the traditional addition of pure citrus bergamot from Calabria in Italy.
Most Earl Grey is made with flavourings. Look out for little blue flowers- they add nothing in terms of flavour, but are a good disguise to make the tea look more natural.)
(both natural or artificial flavourings are the product of a laboratories and a machines not nature.)
· Our Sri Lankan Vanilla Tea is a velvety smooth, handcrafted black tea that infuses with the pods of vanilla orchids that grows alongside the tea plants.
· The vanilla is hand-pollinated, harvested, cooked, then sun-dried by day and kept in cool shade by night for 4 months to develop rich vanillin.
· The tea and vanilla pods are then stored together in clay pots for two and a half months, allowing the aroma to infuse naturally.
· Our masala chai is made with pure herbs and spices.
Another way of adding layers of flavour to black tea, without artificial chemicals, is smoking:
· Our Lapsangs Souchongs are Chinese black teas from the wuyi shan tranditionally smoked with pine wood.
· Malawi Mountain Moto is smoked over guava leaves in the Thyolo Mountains of Satemwa.
Barrel aging:
Our Satemwa whisky barrel tea is a hand-crafted tea aged in whisky barrels.
