The best chamomile tea

Tried this as part of the Discovery Box. By far the best chamomile tea I've tried, both in terms of flavour and mouth-feel. Lovely

Simply the best Chamomile

I discovered these while living in Scotland, and now that I’m back home in France, I still ordered them at Raretea. They’re that good

Tasting Notes

Clean and subtle, these flowers are also wonderfully calming and, of course, caffeine free.

How to make chamomile tea

The general rule of thumb is that all herbs should be infused at 100°C, to dissolve the essential oils. After long experimentation looking for the best flavour extraction, we found that chamomile (like tea), contains bitter compounds. The best flavours are released at lower temperatures – treat it like a green tea and infuse at 70°C. This brings out the sweetness and leaves all the bitterness behind.

Chamomile is the only exception to the herbal rule.

Use 2g of flowers per 150ml of water.

For the optimum infusion use 70°C (158°F) water.

Infuse for 1 - 2 minutes, tasting regularly.

You can infuse these herbs at least three times.  With each careful infusion, different subtleties of flavour are revealed.

Cost Per Cup

16p per cup based on 2g of tea per 150ml of water and 3 infusions.
