Rare Tea Company 20th Anniversary Cocktail Competition - The Dick

The legendary Dick Bradsell and Henrietta Lovell were working on what Dick believed would become the ultimate, universal mezcal cocktail. The recipe was sadly never finished.

As part of Rare Tea’s 20th Anniversary celebrations we’re calling on our friends in the drinks and hospitality world to finish what Dick started. Design a cocktail combining Mezcal and RTC Wild Rooibos to change the world; win massive bragging rights and one of Henrietta’s bespoke tea blends, of which there is only an armful in the world.

Ooh, and a there’ll be a party for everyone during London Cocktail week – hosted by Hawksmoor Spitalfields.

The rules...

  • • Entry open to drinks industry and hospitality professionals.

    • Cocktails must contain Mezcal and Wild Rooibos.

    • Finalists will be partnered with an independent mezcal brand and provided with Mescal and Rare Tea Wild Rooibos for further development.

  • • Always loose and lovely - recipes must not contain tea bags of any kind. Please consider the impact of your drink.

    • Send entries via email to hk@rareteacompany.com by the 8th of August 2024.

    • Finalists announced on the 6th of September 2024.

  • • We’ll need you to attend the final in person on the 8th of October 2024.

    • Judges are looking for a drink that could be global and accessible to everyone who can get their hands on decent Rooibos and decent Mezcal.

    • Nothing Dick would have disapproved of.

Having said all of this, rules are there to be broken, apart from the teabag rule. Please DON'T break the tea bag rule. It would break our hearts.

    Final: 8th of October

    The final round and afterparty will take place on the 8th of October during London Cocktail Week at Hawksmoor Spitalfields. If you’re successful in making the final we need you to attend in person, thank you.
