A hand-crafted Nepali green tea picked in early spring in the foothills of the Himalayas.

This very rare, loose leaf green tea comes from a tiny and exquisite tea garden which produces just a few kilos of some of the finest tea in the world.

Tropical fruit notes of mango, cooked pineapple and lychee, yet low in acidity.

52p per cup based on 2g of tea per 150ml of water and 2 infusions.

Jun Chiyabari tea garden, Dhankuta district, Nepal

View full details

High in the Nepali Himalayas lies the tiny but extraordinarily beautiful Jun Chiyabari Tea Garden. At 1835 meters above sea level, the tea grows slowly but with intense flavours.

The garden is run by Bachan and his brother Lochan Gyawali. These lovely gentlemen have a great respect for the land, the tea and the small team they work with - it is an honour to be part of that.

  • The tea garden is about 90 hectares with altitudes between 1650 and 2200 meters above sea level.

  • It comprises several small fields in amongst forested areas, planted with a mix of various cultivars.

  • They have always been an organic tea garden since the first planting in 2001.

Unique terroir

This Nepali green tea from Jun Chiyabari truly exemplifies the ideas of unique craft and terroir. The early spring pick comes from one specific field, one specific harvest.

The flavour is unlike any other green tea in the world, as is the method of its crafting.

Bachan is a true iconoclast and makes tea, not to old colonial norms or outdated expectations, but purely for the best flavour and highest quality. He is on an endless quest to tell the story of his precious land through the flavours of his tea.

He prefers not to classify his teas even but colour- hence the name Himalayan Spring. This is the most intense taste of springtime in their high mountain gardens. It has a truly luscious taste and aroma.

Amazing iced tea

This succulent loose leaf tea makes an extraordinarily good cold infused iced tea.

Add just 6g of dry leaf per litre of cold filtered water, left to infuse overnight in the fridge, you will get a light and highly quaffable iced tea. Simply strain it and its ready to make a wonderfully refreshing drink.

For pairing with rich food use 10g of leaf per litre of cold water in the same way, and it will give you a more intense infusion and a rich mouthfeel that balances beautifully with fish dishes and even highly spiced food.

Used to be good. Now questionable quality.

I used to love this tea. Like the photo, it was a mix of young leaves and broken bits. It brewed very clean and fruity. For the past couple of purchases, it just tastes and looks oxidized, brews with more particulates, and the fruitiness isn't there. Inconsistent.

Enchanting Spring Treat

Yes, it is a lovely tea. Uplifting with its delicate flowery and fruity flavor, so delicious without any hint of bitterness. For me this tea seems close to a high quality first flush Darjeeling as well as a slightly oxidized Oolong. Very refreshing!

Not our cuppa

Boring, little flavour or aroma. We have tried most RT teas over the past 3 years and try to taste all of the latest. Currently we maintain about 15 teas that we rotate through on a 1-15 basis. We like our tea strong and steep all of them identically: 4 grams in 500 ml at 190F to enjoy with our noon meal. Each tea gets a Y or N to qualify for reordering. Generally, we taste each tea on 4 occasions before we run out. This will not be reordered.
