A rare black Japanese loose leaf tea hand-crafted in Shizuoka by the revered master Moriuchi-san.

Black tea was first grown in Japan at the end of the 19th century in response to the growing fashion for darker tea in Europe, particularly the UK.  As cheaper black tea and a patriotic preference for "colonial" tea grew to dominate, the market demand dwindled. We have not had access or enjoyed Japanese black teas outside of Japan for many generations - which is a huge shame, as you will discover when you try this exquisite loose leaf tea. This is a truly rare tea.

Smooth, soft, buttery mouthfeel with flavours of walnuts and enoki mushrooms. A rare contrast of sweetness and umami.

55p per cup based on 2.5g of tea per 150ml of water and 2 infusions.

Moriuchi tea farm, Shizuoka Prefecture, Japan
